The annual show & sale of 4140 Scotch mule ewes, gimmers and ewe lambs along with Texel and Continental ewes and gimmers saw trade for the best end remain strong with the lesser end proving harder to cash. Notably the texel and continental gimmers obtained a premium and were keenly sought after. Ewe lambs were a grand show for quality and met a fast selling trade.
The pre-sale show was kindly sponsored by Natural Stockcare Ltd and ably judged by Mr J Linton, Sornfallow, who awarded the champion gimmers to J Paterson, East Dykes, Strathaven, which went on to realise £155 selling to the judge. Reserve pen came from Mr McKenzie, Ardgate, which realised £136 and sold to Glenalmond Estates.
In the ewe lamb section the champion pen went to regular consignors J & A Galloway, Lochlyoch, which realised £132 selling to Stobo Home Farm. The reserve champion pen was from The firm of Shawhead, Newmains Home Farm, Douglas, and sold to £102 going home with the judge.
Outwith the show mule gimmers topped at £162 twice from local consignors I Minto, Townhead and F Smith, Cloverhill. Texel gimmers sold to £172 also from Minto, Townhead.
