Blackhaugh On Farm Ram Sale
The inaugural On Farm Sale of Suffolk & Chevease Rams was held at Blackhaugh Farm, Clovenfords, Galashiels, conducted by Livestock Marketing (Borders) and Lawrie and Symington Ltd. The sale included the first auction sale to be held of Chevease Rams.
60 Suffolk and Chevease Rams were offered for sale and met a strong trade throughout with both local and distant buyers eager to purchase rams which resulted in a 100% clearance.
Suffolk Rams were topped at 1,500 gns purchased by Mr Steven Turnball, Larkhall Farm, Jedburgh, this was followed at 1,300gns (Twice) firstly purchased by Messrs Emmerson, Lauder and Messrs Rodgers, Stobswood. The 33 Suffolk Rams averaged £846.36.
The Chevease Rams attracted great interest and were keenly bid for which gave an outstanding average of £879.90 for 24. Top price was 1,400 gns, purchased by Messrs Renwick, Yetlington who later accrued another ram at 1,300gns.
