On Friday 28th September L&S had forward 7300 Store Lambs and Cast & Feeding Ewes, in conjunction with Livestock Marketing (Borders) Ltd, conducted their Show & Sale of 4395 Blackface & 450 Cheviot Wedder Lambs along with 1000 other Store Lambs and 1500 Cast & Feeding Ewes. A full ring of local and distant buyers ensured a buoyant trade throughout in all classes.
The show prior to the sale, was kindly sponsored by the Blackface Sheep Breeders Association and the Borders & Mid Lothian Blackface Sheep Breeders branch, and ably judged by Mr H Jackson, The Boat. The overall champion pen of Blackface Wedder Lambs was awarded to George Irvine, Mount Benger, receiving the R D Cairns Perpetual Salver for the best pen of Blackface Lambs from Border & Mid Lothian area.
The Perpetual Trophy, kindly donated by the Taylor family, Heatheryhall, was won by T Borland, Flemington, for the best pen of Blackface Lambs from the Lanark & Peebles area.
The Cheviot show was also judged by Mr Jackson, a pen of Cheviot Wedders from J Common & Son, Crossdykes, was awarded the overall champion and also received the G Clarke, Wellhead Farms, trophy.

1000 other breed Store Lambs met a fast demand and topped at £72 for Texels from Westfield.

A good show of 1496 Cast & Feeding Ewes were a good show for quality and met an excellent trade for best ewes, with leaner end harder to sell. Sale topped at £142 for Texels from Westfield.
