Sale Date: 25 Sept 2018

Lawrie & Symington Ltd
Lanark Agricultural Centre

Tuesday 25th September

At the annual sale of Blackface Draft Ewes & Gimmers, L & S had forward 3601 Ewes & Gimmers. Due to bad spring, less ewes were forward. Ewes started slowly but trade firmed up during the sale. Well-bred strong gimmers met a sound trade with lesser types harder to cash.

Top price was £3,200 for a pen of 3 from Hugh and Alan Blackwood, Auldhouseburn Flock, which was purchased by Tom Bagan, Waterlands. This was followed by a pen of 6 from Alistair and David MacArthur, Nunnerie Flock, which realised £1,050 to J Harkin, Loughash.

In the ewe section, the Midlock Flock of J Wight & Sons, sold to the top price of £660 for a pen of 8, purchased by Aberuchill Management, this was followed at £620 for a pen of 12 from Mary McColl-Smith, Connachan, which was purchased by Ewan McMillan, Lurg, and A Paterson, Crieff.

The 1767 Ewes sold averaged £85.93 against £74.92 last year. The gimmers levelled at £127.66 for 1581 sold against £150.98 in 2017.
