The Scottish Blackface Sheep Breeders held their Annual Show and Sale of 106 In-Lamb Ewes and Gimmers at Lanark on Saturday 29th February 2020, where a packed ring of buyers, including many Northern Irish customers ensured a buoyant trade throughout with the best end receiving a strong premium.
The sale topped at 10,000gns for a 1-Crop Ewe from Messrs J & P Harkin, Loughash – having been served by the £26,000 Elmscleugh Shearling, and carrying a single. She was sired by the £20,000 Auldhouseburn, whilst her dam was by the £5,500 Dalwyne. This ewe sold to V Fullerton, Moneyneena Road, Draperstown.
Next at 7,500gns was a Stock Gimmer from Messrs HA Blackwood, Auldhouseburn, sired by the £75,000 Dalchirla, with her dam by the £25,000 Auldhouseburn. She changed hands carrying a single by the £160,000 Elmscleugh, to V Bull, Croft Lock Bay, Isle of Skye.
The pre-sale show was ably judged by Mr D Brown, Madrissa which saw the Championship awarded to Messrs J Wight & Sons, Midlock with a Gimmer from Midlock Glespin. She is sired by the £24,000 Connachan with dam her sired by the £7,000 Midlock. She sold carrying twins by the home-bred son of the £8,000 Dyke ‘Stag’, for 3,000gns to E McKenna, Urbalshinney Road, Maghera.
Taking the Reserve Champion was Mr D Morrison, Dalwyne with his Gimmer sired by Oasis. Her dam was sired by the £10,000 Hartside. Selling for 2,200gns to C Gallagher, Cappry, Ballybofey, she sells carrying twins having been served by the £22,000 Dalchirla.
