Sheep Primestock Report

On Monday 26th May Lawrie and Symington Ltd sold 152 Lambs, 2654 Hoggs and 1135 Cast Ewes through Lanark.

Lambs

A fine sow of 152 spring lambs was double the entry for the same week last year. A good export weight lamb would be worth as much per head as a heavy weight. More required each week.

Hoggs

The 2654 prime hoggs were a mixed show for quality, quite disappointing how there can be so many badly fleshed, lean sheep forward at the end of May when stores were dear to good finishers all season. Best quality fed hoggs and heavy weight hoggs easily sold.

The sale topped at £198 per head twice for Texels from Warnock, Hill Farm, Strathaven and to 347p/kg for Texels from Leggate, Silverrig Farm.
