Sheep prime stock report

On Monday the 15th May 2023 Lawrie and Symington Ltd sold 51 Lambs, 2195 Hoggs and 736 Cast Ewes and Rams through Lanark.

The first show of the season for spring lambs saw an excellent show for quality with demand strong and many more could have been sold to advantage. All weight ranges required.

The sale topped at £175 per head for Texels from Messrs Wilkins, Wester Whitecastle and to 386p/kg for Txels from the same home.

Overall Average 329p/kg (SQQ 342p/kg)

The 2195 hoggs were a mixed show for quality with a two-tier trade evident. The best fleshed hoggs in all weight ranges were easily sold 300p plus but the leaner sorts definitely easier on week.

The sale topped at £195 per head for Texels from Messrs Kennedy, Mitchellhill and to 359p/kg for Beltex from Messrs Gray, Eastfield.

Overall Average 272p/kg (SQQ 268p/kg)

The 736 cast ewes and rams were a mixed show but keenly bid for with all classes much sharper on the week. The sale topped at £254 for Texels from Messrs Morrison, Dalwyne and to £130 for Blackface from Messrs Hamilton, Woolfords.
