Lawrie & Symington sold 1516 cattle at their first spring show & sale. With a busy ringside of buyers from start to finish, trade was buoyant throughout. A great run of both Charolais and Limousin cattle were forward with buyers from all over Scotland & England in attendance. Charolais bullocks sold to average 440.89p and heifers to 416p. Limousin bullocks sold to level at 431.5p with heifers to 417p.
The show was very ably judged by Mr Chris Smith of North Boig who picked out his champion in the form of a Shorthorn bullock forward from Messrs T & R Harper, Southmains Farm which scaled 416kg and later sold for £2480 or 596.2p. The reserve ticket was awarded to a Charolais bullock from Messrs Warnock, Dreva Farm weighing 418kg and selling at £2280 or 545.5p.
Out with the show, the sale of bullocks peaked at £2600 twice for an Aberdeen Angus at 650kg from Mr Baird, Muirmains Farm & again for an AA at 640kg from Newbigging Mill or to 545.5p for a 418kg Charolais cross from Mr J Warnock, Dreva Farm to average 425p. Heifers sold to a top of £2370 for a Limousin x at 540kg from Messrs Gibb, Birkhill or to 541.5p for a 410kg Limousin from Huntlyhill Farms to level at 406.48p.
The 17 dairy bullocks forward sold to £2140 or 425.4p from Messrs Taylor, Blackburn Mains for a 503kg Friesian.
