SCOTTISH NATIONAL SHOW & SALE OF TEXEL SHEEP
The Scottish National Show and Sale of 195 Texel Sheep, on behalf of the Texel Sheep Society realised 10 five-figure prices with averages and numbers entered/forward slightly back on the year. A fury of ringside bidding was accompanied with fewer online bids via MartEye.
Harestone Jagerbomb from father and son due, Stuart and Neil Barclay based at Insch topped today’s trade at 68,000gns (video below via MartEye/Texel Sheep Society). Sired by the 55,000gns Auldhouseburn Illusion, he is out of a homebred ewe sired by Lylehill GTR. He was knocked down after an array of bidding to regular sale and breed supporter, Messrs Boden & Davies, Sportsmans flock, Stockport.
Ettrick JFK took today’s second top price at 28,000gns for another father and son duo, this time for Gordon and David Gray at Selkirk. Sired by Sadlerhead Fury who was previously purchased at the Scottish Texel Sheep Breeders’ Club Show and Sale, he was knocked down in a two-way split to Messrs J & H Clark, Garngour flock, Lesmahagow and Mr T Ayrton, Ayrtons flock, Thurnham.
A further two lambs sold at 26,000gns. First was Auldhouseburn Jings was Hugh and Alan Blackwood, Muirkirk. A son of the last year’s six-figure top price, Midlock Inferno with his homebred dam being a daughter of the 21,000gns Strathbogie ewe, he was purchased jointly by Messrs AD & SA Campbell, Drimsynie flock, Galston with an equal share retained by Hugh and Alan Blackwood.
The other to realise 26,000gns was Knap Jumping Jack Flash from Mr Robert Cockburn, Errol. A son of 22,000gns Duncryne Hakuna Matata. He sold in a two-way split to Mr Robbie Wilson, Milnbank flock, Turriff and Messrs Crawford, Bandley flock, Alford.
22,000gns was received for Haymount Jumanji consigned by W Jack Arnot for his pen leader. Sired by the Rue Wood Indiana, and out of a homebred ewe sired by the £100,000 joint private purchase, Strathbogie Gladiator, he was purchased by the Clanfield flock owned by Mr James Theyer based in Oxfordshire.
The Pre-Sale Show saw Messrs J & H Clark take the Overall Championship for his pen leader, Garngour Jackall who then sold for 20,000gns in a two-way split to Messrs Stuart and Neil Barclay, Harestone flock and Mr Kenny Pratt, Hilltop flock, Peterculter. Jackal is a son of the Ayrtons Icon and our of a Sportmans Grand Slam homebred daughter.
Topping the Gimmer section was Mr Matthew Seed, Auchry, Cumiestown at 1,800gns. A daughter of the Sadlerhead Fury and out of a Teiglum Bandana homebred daughter, she now joins Messrs WW & D Boow, Corney Hall, Millom.
Topping the Ewe Lamb section, something new for 2026, at 2,500gns was Messrs Donald & Sarah MacPherson and son Ross, Hexel flock, Berwick-Upon-Tweed. Sired by the homebred and retained sire, Hexel Inter Milan, a Procters Chumba Wumba son. She now joins the Saddell Glen Texel flock with Mr Douglas MacKenzie, Campbeltown.
