LANARK – BF Ewe Lamb Report – 7th September

7 September 2022

7th  September 2022

Lawrie and Symington Ltd held it’s Annual Sale of 5237 Blackface Ewe Lambs which saw an average of £99.89 (-£6.13) for 348 more sold.

The best end of the lambs with both size, power and good skins were easily sold and realised a great trade.  The lesier end proved more difficult to cash.

The sale topped at £1600 for a pen of 3 flashy lambs from Messrs Blackwood, Auldhouseburn.  These lambs sired by both Loughash rams purchased last year found a new home with Messrs McCauly, Northern Ireland.

Next at £880 was a pen of 5 from Messrs Blackwood, Dalblair and found their way home with Messrs Flett, Inverness.

Included in today’s sale was a Charity Auction of 26 Ewe Lambs on behalf of the Lanark & Peebles Blackface Breeders Branch who are raising money for Cancer Research in memory of the late Malcolm Coubrough.  These lambs were donated by various branch members and sold in combined pens.

Top price amongst these was £250 for a pair of North-Type from Calla and Woolfords which were purchase by Cadogan Estates.

The third pen selling to L&S for £150ph which were then re-offered for sale.

A total of £5,380 was raised towards the cause.
