Closamectin Kelso Ram Sales
Friday 14th September

On Friday 14th September Lawrie & Symington sold 1590 Rams of all classes at the Closamectin Kelso Ram Sales. The top end in all breeds were very dear and keenly sought after whilst the middle of road sheep worked away better than vendor expectations, as is normally the case. The lesser end of rams proved far more difficult to move and could perhaps be better marketed at sales later in the season.
The sale topped at £29,000 in Ring No 9 for an outstanding Texel Shearling from Messrs Clark, North Garngour, which sold to Mr P Slater.
This was closely followed at £16,000 in the same ring for another Texel Shearling from Neil Harvey, Blackadder Mains, which sold to Jim Gibb, Toftcombs, Ian Minto, Townhead & James Orr, Wester Walston.
In Ring 15, Bluefaced Leicesters saw both types meet a good steady trade topping at £8,000 for a crossing type from Messrs Sharp, Newbigging Walls, which sold to Messrs McClymont, Tinnis Farm, then at £6,500 a traditional Blue from Messrs Dykes, South Slipperfield, sold to Messrs Williams, Bryn Daws.
In Ring 6 the Charollais sale was topped at £1,800 for a Shearling Ram from Messrs G Hodgson & Mr G Wearmouth, Rosehill, County Durham, and was bought by F Ward, Rogerly Hall, Bishop Auckland.
