Select Seven Texels Sale Report -Saturday 9th December

12 December 2023

LAWRIE & SYMINGTON LTD

LANARK AGRICULTURAL CENTRE

Saturday 9th December 2023

Select Seven: Sale of In-Lamb Texel Gimmers, Empty Ewe Lambs & Embryo Pregnancies

A welcoming atmosphere greeted the breeders and followers for the famous Select Seven Texel Sale at Lanark, where trade peaked at 16,000gns. A fury of bidding met a brief demand on a dreich day with some internet bidding via Marteye was also welcomed.

Topping the day’s trade at 16,000gns was Auldhouseburn for their Seaforde Empire King daughter from Hugh & Alan Blackwood, based at Muirkirk. Her Knock Yardsman sired dam originally purchased from the Garngour flock, changed hands carrying twins to one of their new stock sires, the 90,000gns Hilltop Goliath to Messrs Boden & Davies, Sportmans flock.

Second top was 8,500gns from the Garngour flock from Messrs J & H Clark at Lesmahagow. A daughter of the 34,000gns Claybury Dunkirk, her homebred dam is by the 15,000gns Procters Chumba Wumba. She changes hands due twins to the 20,000gns Sportsmans Grand Slam to Mr J Cubitt for his Long Mountain flock, based in Ballymena.

Hugh & Alan Blackwood also received 7,000gns for another Seaforde Empire King daughter. Her dam this time was a 2022-homebred sired by the 350,000gns Sportsmans Double Diamond. Carrying twins to the privately purchased Hope Valley Golden Balls, she will join the Seaforde flock with Mark Priestley, Downpatrick.

Another father & son selling due, Gordon & David Gray, Ettrick flock based at Selkirk topped their trade at 6,000gns when selling to James Theyer of the Clanfield flock down in Oxfordshire. Their pen leader is a daughter of New View Electrifying, out of a 2019-homebred dam sired by Midcombe Brigadier, who was also the dam of Ettrick Grey Goose who sold for 42,000gns earlier in the season. This gimmer sold due to new stock sire, Knap Godzilla.

Guest Consigner of Messrs MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth topped their pen at 5,200gns, also with their pen leader. Archie & John sold their top price to repeat buyer, Sheena Woodrow who runs the Newmains Islay flock, following her successful purchase from the father & son last year. For her exchange, she receives a daughter of the 5,000gns Teiglum Exocet, out of a Hexel bred dam by Castlecairn Vavavoom. She sells carrying triplets by Sportsmans Grand Slam.
