The Scottish National Show and Sale of 259 Texel Sheep, on behalf of the Texel Sheep Society, one six-figure price and unlucky for some, but 13 five-figure prices were also realised. Averages were up on the year also.

Midlock Farms took today’s only six-figure price at this year’s Sale, selling at a top of 110,000gns for Midlock Inferno. This Febuary-born Ram Lamb is sired by the 2,200gns Claybury Hotshot, he is out of a Sportsmans Cannon Ball homebred 2020-born daughter. After a fury of bids, the hammer finally fell to his new owners of Messrs Boden & Davies, Sportsmans flock and Blackwood Farms, Auldhouseburn flock.

Blackwood Farms more than funded their new investment selling to a top of 65,000gns for their Okehall Hammerhead son – Auldhouseburn Imperial King. His dam is a ewe lamb sired by the 90,000gns Hilltop Goliath and from the ‘20665’ family within the Auldhouseburn flock. He sold in a three-way share to Messrs McKerrow, Uppermill; Messrs Wilson, Milnbank; and Messrs Knox, Haddo.

Blackwood Farms were also received 55,000gns for another Okehall Hammerlands son – Auldhouseburn Illusion, this time out of a 2023-born daughter sired by the 130,000gns Haymount Fan Dabi Dozi. His successful new owners are Messrs Barclay, Harestone; Messrs Hunter, Wedderburn; Messrs Cockburn, Knap; Messrs Arnott, Haymount; and Messrs Campbell, Strawfrank.

At 42,000gns was Auldhouseburn Impression – a full brother to the 55,000gns, Alan and Hugh’s third lamb in their line-up. The G.Dam bred the 28,000gns Auldhouseburn Fancy Pants. This lamb remains in Ayrshire with Messrs Forsyth, Glenside flock with Messrs Blackwood also retaining an equal share.

At 40,000gns was Mellor Vale Impeccable from Messrs Boden. He is a maternal brother to the 20,000gns sold at Lanark last year. Sired by the 30,000gns Milnbank Hunter who was purchased last year, he is out of a homebred daughter sired by the 38,000gns Castlecairn Doodlebug. Investing in this lamb was Gordon & David Gray, Ettrick flock.

At 24,000gns was Harestone Indiana Jones from Neil and Stuart Barclay. A son of last year’s Lanark top price, Hexel High Voltage at 70,000gns, his dam is sired by the 15,000gns Procters Chumba Wumba. He sold in a three-way share to Messrs MacGregor, Allanfauld; Messrs Wight, Midlock; and Messrs Clark, Teiglum.

At 20,000gns, Ettrick I Am Maximus from Gordon & David Gray. Sired by the 22,000gns Duncryne Hakuna Matata. His dam is Ettrick’s top Sadlerhead Fury daughter and from the same family as the 42,000gns Ettrick Gray Goose; £35,000 Ettrick Gruffalo (sold Kelso Ram Sales); 9,000gns Ettrick High Flyer; and 8,000gns Ettrick Grin N Bare It. Messrs Dunlop, Elmscleugh invested in this one.

Next at 19,000gns was Thornbury Ironside from Nick Legge and shepherd Peter Stubbs. Out of the 17,000gns Mellor Vale Huntsman, a son of the 170,000gns Knap Grumpy. Out of a homebred dam sired by Midlock Dynamo. He sold to Messrs Campbell, Overburns; Messrs Campbell, Drimsynie; and Messrs Campbell, Cowal flocks with Thornbury retaining an equal share.

The Overall Champion from the Pre-Sale Show, ably judged by Mr Graeme Knox, Haddo flock came from Robert Cockburn, Knap flock. Knap Ibiza Rocks realised 18,000gns. Another son of the 22,000gns Duncryne Hakuna Matata, he is out of New View Electrifying. Final bidders on this ram lamb was Messrs Graham, Craigdarroch and Messrs Hunter, Dalchirla.

Messrs Boden & Davies received 13,000gns for Sportsmans Ice Breaker, a son of the 30,000gns Milnbank Hunter. Out of a Sportsmans Express daughter, he heads south to join Messrs Evan, Hope Valley flock.

Midlock Farms also received 12,000gns for Midlock Invictus. A 10,000gns Teiglum High Flyer son, he is out of homebred daughter of the 34,000gns Claybury Dunkirk. He now heads to join Messrs Vaughan, Partridge Nest flock.

The last five-figure price realised was 11,000gns for Allanfauld Instructor, from Messrs MacGregor. A son of Duncryne Houdini, a joint private purchase for £40,000. Out of a homebred daughter of the 34,000gns Claybury Dunkirk, he also heads to join the Elmscleugh flock with Messrs Dunlop.

Further funding their investment at Allanfauld and topping the Gimmer trade, Messrs MacGregor also received 20,000gns for their sole entry gimmer. Sired by Knap Godzilla, she is out of a homebred daughter also sired by the 15,000gns Procters Chumba Wumba. She sold jointly to Blackwood Farms, Auldhouseburn and Messrs Boden & Davies, Sportsmans.
